Dillingham

Dillingham is a "bush" fishing community. It is known as the gateway city to the Tikchik State Park, which is the largest State Park in the United States. Dillingham boasts to be the Sockeye Salmon Capital. Fishing accounts for substantial revenue for the city's residents and businesses as commercial fishermen, along with the sports fishermen, live and work in the many lodges, inns, and bed & breakfasts. The population of Dillingham is approximately 2,400. Commercial fishing, fish processing, cold storage and support comprise major portions of the fishing industry in Dillingham. Tourism is fast becoming a large part of the economy with the spring and summer population doubling. Dillingham is also a regional center for government in this southwest Alaska area.
